Carry On Necessities

Updated: 6 days ago

It is so important to have your essentials with you when you're traveling. You can't always rely on the airline/airport to have what you need (plus waiting to buy something at the airport can be so expensive). I pack everything I could possibly need on so that I am fully prepared for a long flight.

My go to carry on tote is a large Vera Bradley that has all of the pockets in the world! There are two pockets on the outside to keep your boarding ticket and your phone. The actual purse itself zips close and has 6 large pockets inside which helps me stay organized when I travel. I usually have a pocket dedicated to medicine, chargers/headphones, sunglasses/jewelry, wallet/keys, and more! Mine is obviously pink but you can pick different colors!

If you leave these items at home, you won't make it very far!

  • Driver's License

  • Passport with case

  • Currency

  • Credit Cards

  • Wallet

  • Important Documents (ie hotel confirmations, maps, etc)

Can’t live with them, can’t live without them … don’t forget the most important devices.

  • iPhone (and charger)

  • Portable Charger - make sure you charge it before you begin to travel!

  • iPad / Tablet (and charger)

  • Camera (and charger)

  • Laptop (and charger)

  • Apple Watch (and charger)

  • Headphones

  • Outlet Adapter if traveling abroad

No matter how long or short the flight is, you want to be comfortable when you travel! I have a go to travel outfit that consists of a short sleeve tee, leggings, a sweater, tennis shoes. I bring  few other comfort items too!

Don’t forget to take care of yourself. Traveling can really take a toll on your body so it’s important to remember the little things.

  • Your DIY Safety/Emergency Kit - check out my blog post here on what you need to pack in your Safety Kit. It has everything from Bandaids to Pepto to more!

  • Medicine! Never pack this in a checked bag because the airline could lose your bag and you’d be S.O.L. Always carry your meds with you and bring a few extra in case your flight gets delayed/canceled on the way home. I use this compact med organizer.

  • Refillable Water Bottle

  • Airborne & Tylenol

  • Chapstick

  • Facemask – honestly this is one of my favorite things to bring on a flight. My skin feels so dry after spending time in the air so I like to bring a facemask to put on the last 30 minutes of the flight. It really wakes me up! Make sure you get one that doesn’t require washing it off.

  • Toothbrush & paste

Flights can be a bit dull if you don’t come prepared with things to fill your time. Below are my favorite activities to bring on a plane to keep me occupied!

  • Book

  • Magazine/Newspaper

  • Card Games

  • Movie (pre-download before you leave your house)

  • Podcast (pre-download before you leave your house)

Can't forget these gems!

  • Gum

  • Snacks

  • Journal + Pen

  • Sunglasses

  • Jewelry (don't ever put it in your suitcase)

All-in-all, it sounds like so much to lug around while you travel but I find it better to be prepared than upset you forgot something at home. You'll have everything you need at the edge of your fingertips and you'll never get bored!
