Asheboro is a small town in the heart of North Carolina. Visitors often come here as a weekend getaway from Charlotte or Raleigh, as its only about 1.5 hours from each location! Spending a weekend in the quiet town of Asheboro will leave you feeling recharged!

Asheboro, North Carolina, is a charming and picturesque town nestled in the heart of the state. It’s best known as the home of the North Carolina Zoo, one of the largest and most renowned natural habitat zoos in the world, offering a fantastic animal viewing experience.

Beyond the zoo, Asheboro boasts a rich cultural scene, historic districts, and outdoor recreation opportunities, making it an appealing destination for both residents and visitors alike.

As I alluded to above, visiting Asheboro is a great weekend retreat and perfect to escape the “big city” vibes of Raleigh or Charlotte.

One of Asheboro’s claim to fames is the North Carolina Zoo. In fact, this zoo is the world’s largest natural habitat zoo with over 1800 animals – see the zoo map for a reference of each animal exhibit!

The Asheboro zoo is over 500 acres of exhibits (bigger than a Disney World Park) – so plan to spend a minimum of 5 hours here, if not the entire day!

Explore Downtown Asheboro

Walking around downtown Asheboro is the perfect way to spend a leisurely afternoon. Sunset Avenue is the main street in Asheboro with numerous local shops, restaurants, and vendors!

Tot Hill Farm Golf Club

My boyfriend is an avid golfer, and had an amazing golfing experience at Tot Hill Farm Golf Club in Asheboro, North Carolina. The course is not only beautifully designed but also challenging, making it perfect for golf enthusiasts like him.

The scenic views of the rolling hills and the well-maintained greens added to the overall enjoyment. After a rewarding round of golf, we relaxed at the clubhouse, which offered delicious dining options and a friendly atmosphere.

There truthfully aren’t many hotel options in Asheboro NC. You’ll find your basic select stay hotels from larger chains.
