Best Breweries in Charlotte, NC (from a local)

Charlotte, NC is popping up with breweries left and right! This is both a good thing and a bad thing... you've got plenty of options to try but it can be completely overwhelming to narrow it down and pick one to visit. That's why I've created a guide to the best breweries in Charlotte, NC! The top three are the breweries you definitely won't want to miss in Charlotte! The others are top recommendations!

1. Olde Mecklenburg Brewery (OMB)

South End

Old Mecklenburg Brewery is the oldest microbrewery in Charlotte NC. This German inspired brewery will make you feel like you've transported to Dusseldorf. There is a Brauhaus (inside brewery) and Biergarten (large outdoor area). Be sure to check out their events calendar because they usually have fun festivals or activites in their Biergarten.

  • Most Popular Beer? Captain Jack

  • Do They Sell Food? Yes! (All German inspired - their pretzels are amazing)

  • Are they near the LightRail? Yes! About a five minute walk from Scaleybark Station

2. Sycamore Brewery

South End

Sycamore is a Friday night staple for locals. Every Friday, Sycamore brings half a dozen food trucks onsite for "Food Truck Friday". Pair that with good music and great beer and you've got yourself a perfect Friday evening. Sycamore features a huge outdoor area with only a small inside location (making it inconvenient for rainy days).

  • Most Popular Beer? Southern Girl

  • Do They Sell Food? No, but they usually have food trucks

  • Are they near the LightRail? Yes, it is directly on the LightRail!

3. Suffolk Punch / Hyde Brewery

South End

Suffolk Punch is a newer restaurant that features Hyde Brewery within it. The outdoor area is so cute with string lights and large picnic tables. I love the vibe here and the beers are typically pretty cheap! They have over 50 beers on tap. Bonus - it's also a coffee house!

  • Most Popular Beer? Blue Daisy

  • Do They Sell Food? Yes, breakfast, lunch, and dinner (I recommend brunch).

  • Are they near the LightRail? Yes! 30 seconds away from New Bern Station.

4. Legion Brewery

Plaza Midwood & South Park

Legion Brewery currently has 2 locations in Charlotte (and they're working on their third)! I prefer the South End location which has a fun atmosphere! It's almost always jam packed, especially after work and on the weekends. The Plaza Midwood location features live music on Fridays & Saturdays though!

  • Most Popular Beer? Juicy Jay IPA

  • Do They Sell Food? Yes, they offer lunch & dinner!

  • Are they near the LightRail? No.

5. Heist Brewery

NoDa

Heist Brewery is a great location in NoDa. This brewery features beers and craft cocktails! They have a great menu for lunch, dinner, and brunch!

  • Most Popular Beer? Citraquench'l

  • Do They Sell Food? Yes, they offer lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch!

  • Are they near the LightRail? Yes

5. Unknown Brewery

South End

Unknown Brewing Company was created by a very quirky man who turned his passion for beer into a career. You'll quickly feel his sense of humor by the names of the beers (like Kitten Snuggles or Dad Jokes). This brewery recently added a small rooftop patio where you can see the skyline of Charlotte! Also, if you're a biker, they have a "Bike and Brew" club that meets every Saturday at 2:30PM.

  • Most Popular Beer? Over the Edge

  • Do They Sell Food? Yes, they offer lunch & dinner!

  • Are they near the LightRail? Yes!

6. Wooden Robot

South End & NoDa

Wooden Robot is a local favorite. The original location in South End is rather small so they've expanded and created a new location in NoDa. I'll be honest and say I never saw what the hype was about for this particular brewery, but it made the list since all my friends adore it!

  • Most Popular Beer? Overachiever IPA

  • Do They Sell Food? Yes, "Twisted Eats" is all beer infused food.

  • Are they near the LightRail? The SouthEnd location is!

7. NoDa Brewing Company

NoDa

NoDa Brewing Company is a fan favorite and quickly growing here in the Queen City. It now has three locations (one of which is in the Charlotte Douglas Airport) and features a wide variety of beers. They have a run club, yoga club, and more!

  • Most Popular Beer? Hop Drop and Roll

  • Do They Sell Food? No.

  • Are they near the LightRail? No.

8. Brewers at 4001 Yancey

South End

Brewers at 4001 Yancey is a new Charlotte brewery. It is unique in that 4 different local breweries (Southern Tier, Sixpoint, Victory Brewing Company and Bold Rock Cidery) came together to create Brewers at 4001 Yancey. They have 35-40 rotating beers & ciders on tap to try! (PS: it's located in walking distance from OMB).

  • Most Popular Beer? Too many to count...

  • Do They Sell Food? Yes, full service menu!
