15 Best Things to Do in Georgia in the Fall

Fall is a wonderful season filled with so many fun things to do like apple picking, hiking, camping, Halloween decorating, and more! There’s truly an endless number of activities to do in Georgia during the fall months. One of my favorite regions of Georgia, the Blue Ridge Mountains, features a plethora of fall traditions as the leaves change colors and the temperatures begin to drop!

Check out my favorites Things to Do in Georgia in the Fall below!

Visit Burt’s Farm Pumpkin Patch

The most cliché fall thing to do is the first one we need to check off the list: Visit a Pumpkin Patch in Georgia! There are a wide variety of pumpkin patches all over the state but the most popular is Burt’s Farm.

Burt’s Farm is open daily starting September 1st through mid-November and entry is free. Here at Burt’s Farm, you can pick out the perfect pumpkin, ride hayrides, explore a corn maze, shop the market, and more!

Check out the full list of Pumpkin Patches in Georgia HERE.

Frolick in Faussett Farm Sunflower Field

Just 2 miles away from Burt’s Farm (the best pumpkin patch in Georgia), there is a sunflower field that is an Instagram-lovers dream!

Faussett Farm Sunflowers is a family-owned farm that features acres of beautiful sunflowers. During the fall season, they open their farm daily for $5/person for pictures. Check their Facebook page for updates!

Go Apple Picking at BJ Reece Apple Orchard

Going Apple Picking means there is a good chance someone is making apple pies, so this is always a must for me in the fall! BJ Reece Apple Orchard is the perfect place to go apple picking in the Georgia mountains. U-Pick is typically only offered in September/October.

PS: Be sure to buy one (or 6) of their fried pies! I am obsessed with them!

Go for a hike in the North Georgia Mountains

North Georgia has endless trails that offer beautiful scenic overlooks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. One of my personal favorite hikes is Amicalola Falls because of the beautiful waterfall views. Use this guide to find the best Hiking Trails in Georgia that fit your needs.

Have a Camp Fire at Southern Belle Farms

Roasting smores over an open fire just sounds like the perfect way to end a fall day. Don’t have a campfire? Fear not… you can visit Southern Belle Farms and rent one of their fire pits for the night!

While you’re at Southern Belle Farms, be sure to check out the wide variety of activities they offer like Cornfield Maze, Cow Train Ride, Barnyard Animals, Pumpkin Picking, and more!

PS: You can also have a camp fire at your Getaway House mentioned below! 🙂

Spend a night in a “Getaway” tiny house cabin

Fall Season in Georgia means that temperatures are usually in the perfect 80s-60 zone. This makes it the best time for camping.

My all-time favorite “camping” experience is at Getaway House! They have Tiny House Cabins nestled in the woods with a huge window to stargaze and view the color of the leaves.

Cheer on Your Favorite Football Team

Nothing says fall season like a Football Saturday (or Football Sunday if you prefer Pro!). Here in Georgia, you can watch your favorite College team play on Saturday (go dawgs) and then cheer on the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday!

Can’t go to the game? That’s okay! Have a backyard tailgate party with some friends!

Scarecrows in the garden

Atlanta Botanical Gardens is honestly one of the best-hidden gems in Atlanta. I say “hidden” because I feel like it is often overlooked! Well, be sure to check out the Atlanta Botanical Gardens during the fall season for their annual “Scarecrows in the Garden” event.

Visit A Haunted House

Okay, so I’m not really into Haunted Houses… I’m way too much of a scaredy-cat. I haven’t done either of these but have heard good things so I’m recommending it nonetheless. There are two popular Haunted Houses here in Georgia: Netherworld and  Haunted Montrose.

Go Horseback Riding in the Mountains

Enjoy the changing color of the leaves while riding a horse through the North Georgia mountains! There are a few different outfits that offer horseback riding in Georgia – I like Chattahoochee Stables because their guided tour is 1 hour and mostly along the river for beautiful views!

Picnic at Piedmont Park

There’s nothing better than enjoying the fall weather outside with friends and family. I personally love to visit Piedmont Park and have a picnic there! The views of the Atlanta Skyline make for a great backdrop, especially around sunset!

“Hallowfest” at Six Flags (formerly known as FrightFest) is a family fun event filled with zombies, scarecrows, and pirates! Six Flags completely transforms their park starting in mid-September for a fun Halloween-themed adventure!

Take a Ghost Tour in Savannah, GA

Did you know that Savannah, GA is considered America’s Most Haunted City!? Have a SpOoOoOky night in a Ghost and Gravestones Tour in the haunted city of Savannah, GA! It’s a fun way to celebrate Halloween and get in the spooky spirit – definitely one of my favorite things to do in Georgia in the fall!

  1. I wish the sunflowers lasted this long in the UK, we normally have around 2 weeks in the summer to see them (if we’re lucky!) Georgia looks like such a picturesque autumn destination and the number of pumpkins too! Wow – I need to come over to The States!

  8. First of all, OMG your photos are so adorable! Georgia seems like an amazing place for fall. Being from California, we don’t really get a fall season. We get summer heat and then winds but not really the beautiful color change in the leaves. Also, I would love to go apple-picking. I know the closest spot here if far out in the valley past Los Angeles, which is an hour from me lol Thank you for sharing this lovely post!
